General practitioners and family physicians perform some or all of the following duties:
Evaluate their patients' health by examining patients; ordering laboratory tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic procedures; and consulting with other medical practitioners
Prescribe and administer medications/treatments, and inoculate/vaccinate patients
Advise on health care including health promotion and disease, illness, and accident prevention
Perform and assist in routine surgery
Provide emergency care
Provide acute care management
Deliver babies and provide prenatal/postnatal care
Report births, deaths, and contagious diseases to government authorities
Supervise home care services
