DescriptionEnroll in CDI College's Intra Oral Dental Assistant diploma program and discover the many career opportunities that await graduates. This diploma program is a comprehensive and intensive study of dental care, oral pathology, pharmacology, and dental radiography. Students learn how to prepare treatment rooms and patients for treatments, assist dentists during treatment, perform infection control procedures, process radiographs, apply topical fluoride and anesthetic, and maintain patient records, insurance accounts, and other general administrative duties. Courses in the Intra-Oral Dental Assistant program consist of a variety of practical and theoretical lessons.

Students begin with core dental studies which give an orientation to dentistry, oral facial science, and environmental health and safety. Students are also taught how to organize and manage diagnostic records, conduct radiography, and perform administrative duties. Students are required to complete 80 hours of work experience in a private practice during Phase I of the program, and 60 hours during Phase II, to graduate with a diploma. The work experience gives students practical experience working in a dental environment with professional dental assistants and dentists. CDI College follows the rules and legislation regarding the certification of dental assistants. Graduates who are looking for employment as Certified Dental Assistants must be certified by the College of Dental Surgeons of BC. The National Dental Assisting Examining Board (NDAEB) certificate is also required for graduates wishing to be certified. Those interested in furthering their dental training can also take the Expanded Training in Orthodontics program.
