Description | When crimes are committed, individuals and communities suffer. Not only do criminals pose a threat to public safety and stability – they also inflict pain and loss on their victims. As a criminal justice professional, one way you can help mitigate the effects of crime is to enforce the restorative justice system of criminal justice. This system seeks to rehabilitate and reintegrate criminals into society by helping them make amends with their victims.
Restorative justice can complement other criminal justice methods by providing a way for victims and offenders alike to be actively involved in the justice process. Not only does it treat crime as disregard for society’s laws – it also considers how crime can seriously impact individual people. By learning this process, you can prompt criminals to take responsibility for their actions and reconcile with their victims. Through methods such as mediation and face-to-face meetings, you can help offenders and victims come together to deal with the aftermath of a criminal offense and determine how to repair the harm caused by it. | | |
