Description:CDI College’s Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician diploma program prepares students for the challenges of a career working in a medical laboratory. The program combines theoretical and practical elements of lab work in a well-equipped classroom/laboratory setting. Students gain an understanding of key scientific principles, including the fundamentals of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology, clinical chemistry, laboratory microbiology, hematology and immunohematology, the cardiovascular system, including an ECG and vital signs, urinalysis and body fluids, specimen procurement, clinical pathology, cytology, and hystology. Career opportunities for graduates of this program include working in private diagnostic testing laboratories, public health laboratories, hospital laboratories or outpatient departments, quality control laboratories (food testing industry, as support technician), insurance companies as a mobile medical laboratory, veterinary laboratories, physician’s office or clinics, and other types of medical office settings.

Applicants must: have high school graduation or equivalent, or mature student status; pass the college’s admissions test; have a criminal record check (in accordance with the Criminal Records Review Act); have an interview with campus director, program coordinator, or designate; have English 11; have an immunization report (form provided by the College); and have a keyboarding typing speed of 40 wpm.
