You're Not a Burden! Say Yes to Academic and Career Counselling
As a student, you should make a point of using the services available to you. You may come away feeling more confident!
Asking for help is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength. University will drive this point home for you — if you haven't learned this lesson in life yet!
High school counsellors, principals, and teachers across Canada look out for their students' wellness and success. At university, it's a very different vibe. The support is all there — you just have to seek it out.
Finding the support you need at university
We aren't looking over your shoulder like in high school, but we're looking out for students every time we interact with you. We're here waiting for you to come to us — that's how this works. You can always email and ask us questions — we're truly happy to help. You can also get help during your instructor's office hours; they are there specifically for you.
We're trained and experienced with your inquiries and concerns and have the answers you're seeking — just ask us!
Three main areas of support
Another difference is that high school counsellors would do the job of three professionals in university: Academic Advising, Career Development Centre and Counselling.
At university, instead of seeing one individual for all three areas, you'll reach out to professionals in each individual area.
Below is a list of experts who are here at Capilano University to support you on this journey. Look them up and see how they can be there for you — we're waiting to meet you. (Other schools will likely have similar offerings, so be sure to check with them if you're not a Capilano student.)
