Innovation has always been a core value at IE University. That’s why, as part of an ongoing commitment to broaden our program offering into new academic areas, we’re proud and excited to announce the launch of not just one but three completely new programs.

The three new undergraduate programs address scientific, humanistic, and societal issues in a changing global landscape, at a time when the world is facing enormous sociopolitical, environmental and economic challenges. New skills and understanding are needed if humanity is to successfully take on the issues that matter now and in the future. IE University will help produce tomorrow’s leading minds to resolve the challenges a changing world is facing.

Bachelor in Applied Mathematics

The Bachelor in Applied Mathematics is designed for critical thinkers. It’s a program that will produce problem solvers who want to use mathematics to do the solving, by using math as a catalyst for innovation, to the benefit of society. It’s a four-year, full-time program that takes students to both our Segovia and Madrid campuses, and provides a hands-on methodology and a practical focus that strikes a perfect balance between academic learning and real-world scenarios.

In the first year, the Bachelor in Applied Mathematics covers the groundwork for a multidisciplinary understanding of the subject. It then deepens your understanding, covering algebra and geometry, applied mathematics, probability, and statistics. The program moves on to modeling and intelligent systems, heuristics and two of five available electives: Health and Biology, Economics, Banking and Finance, Energy and Sustainability and Operations and Automation. In the final year, students may choose to specialize further, or take the option to graduate with a pure mathematics degree. The final year also features your Capstone Project and an optional exchange period.

Bachelor in Environmental Sciences and Sustainability

The Bachelor in Environmental Sciences and Sustainability is a groundbreaking program for eco-curious students who want to make a difference in the fight against climate change and build a more sustainable society. Its transdisciplinary, connective curriculum is designed to bring environmental and social science together with tech around four key pillar: (i) a changing world facing global challenges, (ii) a systemic approach to sustainability, (iii) a multidisciplinary education to manage complexity, and (iv) a highly in-demand profile.

This is a four-year program, starting with a year in Segovia and then moving on to Madrid. Hands-on and project-based, this program provides a solid scientific foundation to leave students ready to join the growing “green economy” in a world experiencing rapid sociopolitical, regulatory, and environmental change.

In the first year, you’ll build the foundations for your journey, with modules on Core Environmental Sciences, Technology, and Research Method. The second year features Earth Systems, Applied Ecology and Systemic Thinking, examines the role data plays in the sector, and looks at entrepreneurism in sustainability. This year also features a project and field trip focused on urban metabolism.

The third year covers Sustainable Development, Power and Inequality, and Decarbonization, looking at the social aspects of climate change and examining public policy and regulation. The final year is dedicated to electives, allowing you to take what you’ve learned and focus on a subject you’re passionate about. You’ll also complete a hands-on Capstone Project as you gain practical experience tackling real-world issues.

Bachelor in Urban Studies

The UN predicts that by 2050, 68% of the world’s population will live in urban areas. So, the city and its role in human society is more important than ever. The Bachelor in Urban Studies is about improving urban lives, making cities more sustainable and seeing the connections woven into urban areas from multiple perspectives. The four-year program includes a first year in Segovia before moving on to Madrid, using a hands-on approach to impart the specialized skills needed to drive urban change in public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

In the first year, you’ll address the urban framework — the structures and ecosystems inherent in urban living. Moving on to habitat and housing, the second year covers the physical and social structures within which we live our lives. The third year examines accessibility; transport, and the movement of people, goods, energy, and services. Students are encouraged to broaden their horizons with overseas study or internships. The program’s final year covers tools and governance; urban planning and an independent research project.

New programs, new outstanding opportunities

All these new programs feature exchange opportunities to broaden your IE University experience still further. IE University’s worldwide collaboration with 200 partner institutions in 50 countries around the globe gives students unparalleled chances to broaden their horizons. And like all our programs, these are designed to address real-world problems and make graduates stand out in the labour market; 95% of IE University’s 2021 graduates are working, 52% of whom are building careers outside their home country.

These three new programs show IE University’s drive for constant evaluation and evolution of our academic offering to reflect the changing nature of the world, and the new demands being placed on professionals. We’re excited to see what achievements their graduates go on to!
