Go On an Adventure with CBU’s Student Exchange Program

Want to pack your bags and take an educational trip to remember? Cape Breton University has an active student exchange program through partnerships with universities from around the world. You can have the adventure of a lifetime while pursuing your studies and working towards your degree.

What is a student exchange?

As part of the CBU exchange program, you’ll have the opportunity to study in another country for one semester or one year. You’ll earn credits toward your degree (you will require approval from the academic school in which you are studying) and you’ll pay your tuition and related fees to CBU. This means you won’t have to worry about the higher costs of being an international student since you’ll be paying your tuition as a domestic student to CBU.

Why do an exchange?

There are many benefits to taking some time to study abroad in a new country. Check out what an exchange program could do for you:

  • You’ll develop independence and life skills that you could not otherwise learn on campus.
  • By meeting new people and visiting new places, you’ll see the world from many new perspectives.
  • You’ll learn about other cultures and ways of life, and the inter-relationship between cultural values and behaviours.
  • You’ll develop a greater sense of yourself as a Canadian and of the distinct features of Canada as a country.
  • It will set you apart from other job seekers in a competitive market.
  • Successfully completed course credits will be transferred back to your home campus.

Generally, students accepted on exchange programs pay Cape Breton University tuition and retain any Canadian financial aid they may have. Students must be eligible for appropriate entry visas (if required), and are responsible for travel, living and other personal costs, including health care.

Ireland’s working holiday agreement with Canada

Canada has a working Holiday Agreement with Ireland which has offered Irish and Canadian young people between the ages of 18 and 35 the valuable opportunity to experience living and working abroad since 2003.

Ireland’s Working Holiday agreement with Canada offers an exciting opportunity for young Canadians to experience living and working in Ireland. The program gives Canadian youth the chance to progress their career ambitions, connecting with leading global companies located in Ireland. The friendliness and hospitality for which the Irish people are renowned contributes to the ease with which overseas students adapt to the way of life in Ireland which, together with Canada, is one of the friendliest and safest countries in the world.

    Ireland offers two visas:

    • The International Co-op Internship visa, valid for one year, is for students who intend to complete a work placement or internship in Ireland, either paid or unpaid. It’s open to Canadian citizens aged 18-35 who are registered students as post-secondary institutions.
    • The Working Holiday visa, valid for two years, is open to Canadian citizens aged 18-35. This open work visa allows young Canadians to travel and work in Ireland, or to progress their chosen careers through employment in Ireland that is related to their degree and/or professional experience.

So, if you’re interested in getting the most out of your education and you have a craving for adventure, then Cape Breton University can help you with both through our student exchange program.
