Have you heard? Energy Creates, the summer's biggest scholarship contest, is open now. Five awards of $100,000 EACH are open to Canadian youth, between 15 and 25 years old, to support post-secondary studies.
What is Energy Creates?
Energy Creates is Canada's new nationwide challenge for youth to learn about Canada's energy industry and illuminate a path to a brighter future.
Learn about our country, our planet, and yourself! Plus, you could receive a $100,000 scholarship for your efforts. This could cover your full tuition, mandatory fees, and more!
You have until August 31, 2024 to complete your application, but why wait?
Who is eligible for an Energy Creates scholarship?
The Energy Creates scholarships are open to students between 15 and 25 years old. No matter your field of study, or what school you're attending, if you're a student between 15 and 25, you can get involved!
How do I apply for an Energy Creates scholarship?
This scholarship contest is unique. It's a four-step process — and one of these steps is watching a documentary!
Step 1: Set up your Energy Creates account
Like almost any scholarship program, you'll need to create an account. This is simple and will only take you a few moments.
Step 2: Watch the documentary "Global Warning" by director Mathew Embry
Once you're logged in, you'll have the chance to watch "Global Warning," the award-winning documentary from director Mathew Embry. It's a feature-length film, so make sure you set aside approximately 100 minutes to watch the whole thing!
It's a good idea to take notes as you watch, or even give it another look to ensure you gathered all the info you need for the upcoming steps.
Be aware that you can watch "Global Warning" in its entirety on YouTube, posted by Energy Creates. We've embedded it here for your convenience, but you may want to watch the film in the Energy Creates scholarship portal instead. Your call.
Step 3: Pass a quiz on what you've learned
Now that you've learned about energy policy in Canada, the USA, Germany, and beyond, it's time to take a quiz. The notes you took while watching the documentary can help!
You'll find the questions in the Energy Creates portal. Don't worry if you're not the test-taking type, though. There's a downloadable study guide you can access that will help you digest the key points you'll need to know to pass the quiz.
The quiz is meant to help you absorb the things you're learning — your score's not used to determine if you win the scholarship. You can take the quiz as many times as needed to pass.
Step 4: Get creative
Here's where things get fun. We want to hear how Canadian energy — be it fossil fuels, renewables, or a blend of sources — helps create a better way of life for you, Canadians at large, and the world as a whole.
Here are a few starting points to consider:
- energy security at home and abroad
- economic growth and development
- job creation
- technological innovation
- sustainability
Get creative with it! We want to hear from YOU, and that means bringing your personality to the table. Sure, you could write an essay, but you could also produce a video, record a song, paint a picture, create a sculpture, pen a short story, take a photograph... Let your creativity run wild!
Even things like food plating, fashion design, vehicle painting, dance — all kinds of artistic expression are welcome! VR, comics, cosplay, you name it! The only limit is your imagination.
Once you upload your work to the Energy Creates portal, your application is complete!
How will my submission be assessed?
Energy Creates has a diverse team to review all applications, including people from across the professional spectrum:
- artists
- scientists
- writers
- engineers
- businesspeople
- and more
The five top entries will each receive $100,000 for post-secondary education!
If you're not heading to college or university next year, no worries. You can still win a scholarship as long as you're between 15 and 25, and have plans for post-secondary by 2027.
So, why wait? Get energized and apply today! Watch the doc, pass the quiz, and get creative. Be sure to apply before the deadline on August 31, 2024. We can't wait to see the unique, artistic works you'll create!
Get creative and you could win $100,000 for school
