The Eaton-Indigenous Clean Energy (ICE) scholarship runs year-round through 2023, and the first recipient has been selected! Please join us in congratulating Charlene Deneault, of Savona, British Columbia, on earning a $5,000 scholarship plus a paid four-month internship at the Delta, BC Eaton location.

About the $5,000 Eaton-ICE scholarship + paid internship

Established in 2022, the Eaton-ICE scholarships are a partnership between Eaton Electrical and the Indigenous Clean Energy network, established to encourage underrepresented groups to consider the electrical industry for their career. Eaton's dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusion across the electrical field. Indigenous applicants (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) are given priority, as part of an effort to boost the number of Indigenous people working in the industry.

The Eaton-ICE scholarships have three intakes for 2023:

• Spring (now closed)
• Summer (closes June 30, 2023)
• Fall (closes October 31, 2023)

Charlene was selected as the recipient for the Spring intake!

Each scholarship is worth $5,000, which students can use for whatever's needed to advance their electrical career — be it education or training, paying down debt, or covering the costs of living while participating in the internship (which itself is paid, of course).

The four-month paid internship pairs recipients with Eaton electricians and technicians, who work with recipients to help them develop their skills and start their careers.

About Charlene

Charlene is an apprentice electrician, gathering the thousands of hours of experience required to become a licenced Red Seal electrician. Charlene already had about 3,000 hours under her belt, and needs another 3,000 hours to earn her Red Seal, which would allow her to work as a licenced electrician anywhere in Canada. The Eaton internship will go a long way toward covering these hours!

Charlene is a First Nations woman, living in a small community near Savona, British Columbia. Though she loves her village, she also loves to travel, and has spent weeks on-site working on electrical projects, making her an incredible candidate for an Eaton-ICE scholarship and internship.

She's eager to start with the Eaton team in September, based out of the Delta, BC satellite location. She's already planning out her living situation, as Savona is a few hours' drive from Delta. Her paid internship will last four months, including a mandatory training period, so accommodations nearby will be paramount. (Eaton has locations across the country, so you may find a spot closer to home!)

In her application, Charlene described her goals, including sharpening her skills in electrical testing and troubleshooting, power distribution systems, and renewable energy, as well as her passion for the field. Her safety-conscious attitude, alongside her obvious enthusiasm and proven skills, makes her a great fit for the Eaton team.
