St. Jerome’s University (SJU) is part of the University of Waterloo (UW). So, you’ll have all the benefits of earning a UW degree, with the feel of a close-knit community. Automatic entrance awards
At SJU, we want to reward your hard work. Many of our scholarships are typically based on your grades. So, the better your average, the more likely you are to receive a scholarship! Don’t worry about spending all your time on scholarship applications because these entrance awards will be automatically given to you if you qualify!

Board of Governor’s Scholarship | $3,000 in your first year and $2,000 available in your upper years | Awarded to the student with the highest grades entering the Honours Arts or Arts & Business programs. |
President’s Scholarship of Distinction | $2,000 PLUS a $1,500 International Experience Award, and/or
a $1,500 Research Award | Open to students admitted to full-time first-year degree studies at SJU who’re beginning their post-secondary studies for the first time. Students must have an early May admission average of 95%+ and be enrolled in the Arts program These experiential awards are available in your upper years. |
President’s Scholarship | $2,000 | Open to students admitted to full-time first-year degree studies at SJU who’re beginning their post-secondary studies for the first time. Students must have an early May admission average of 90%+ and be enrolled in the Arts program. |
Arts Entrance Scholarship | $1,000 | Open to students enrolled in the Arts program with a mid-May admission average of 85-89.9%. |
Founder’s Scholarship | $1,000 | One student each from selected Roman Catholic schools in Brantford, Cambridge, Kitchener-Waterloo, and North Bay based on their academic performance will be eligible for this scholarship. |
Catholic Education Foundation of Ontario Catholic Student Award | $500 | This scholarship is for students beginning their studies at SJU in the Honours Arts or Honours Arts & Business program, or beginning studies at UW and living in residence at SJU. |
Application-based entrance scholarships
Not all entrance scholarships are automatic, so keep your eye out for any awards that require an application. If you’re eligible, it’s worth putting the time and effort in to apply, as you never know how many people applied — you may be the selected student!

The Joseph & Rosemary Donaldson Bursary | $1,500 | This scholarship is awarded to five incoming first-year SJU students who demonstrate financial need. |
John Sweeney Memorial Scholarship | $1,000 | This scholarship is awarded to one student entering their first year at SJU from Waterloo Catholic District School Board secondary schools or continuing education sites. |
Red Seal Scholarship | $500 | This scholarship is awarded to students graduating from Waterloo Catholic District School Board and Wellington School Board with a Specialist High Skills Major (Red Seal). |
The Suzanne (Kuntz) Forth Bursary | $5,000 | This scholarship is awarded to four incoming SJU students from a secondary school within any of the Ontario Catholic District School Boards. These students must be nominated by a teacher or guidance counsellor and demonstrate financial need. |

Keep in mind that these scholarships are only available to St. Jerome’s University students. But, as an SJU student with dual status as a University of Waterloo student, you could also qualify for additional scholarships through the University of Waterloo! SJU students may be eligible for scholarships from the Faculty of Arts, so explore your scholarship options using the entrance awards database.
