Start Your Career in the Electrical Field with a Scholarship and Paid Internship

If you're looking for a dynamic career in a growing industry, consider the electrical field. Electricians, power line workers, and renewable energy technicians work to keep our modern world humming along, while developing and implementing new technologies to make our energy needs more sustainable.

To support and grow Canada's electrical field, Eaton Electrical has partnered with the Indigenous Clean Energy (ICE) to provide several scholarships and paid internships throughout 2023. Each scholarship is worth $5,000, and each internship will take place over four months, potentially leading to full-time employment.

Am I eligible for an Eaton-ICE scholarship?

Any Indigenous student living in Canada with a passion for the electrical field is welcome to apply. The stronger your interest in and experience with subjects like electrical testing and troubleshooting, power distribution, and renewable energy, the stronger your application will be.

There's a couple of caveats, though. Recipients must:

  • have a high school diploma
  • have a valid Canadian driver's licence
  • be legally permitted to work in Canada, without company sponsorship
  • be willing and able to accept a four-month internship at an Eaton location

All Indigenous students who meet the above criteria are welcome to apply. Indigenous people in Canada are underrepresented in the industry, and we want to change that!

How do I apply for an Eaton-ICE scholarship?

Applying for a scholarship is easy. Create an account at apply.scholarshipscanada.com and fill out the quick application form.

(Note: Even if you have an account on ScholarshipsCanada.com, you'll need a different one for apply.scholarshipscanada.com. The application site has its own login credentials.)

Electrical experience questions

You'll first need to answer three short questions about your previous experience. Share a bit about your experience with:

  • basic electrical testing and troubleshooting
  • basic power distribution systems
  • basic renewable energy systems (eg solar, battery energy storage, etc.)

Little or no experience? No problem! You can still apply for a scholarship and internship. Your passion and dedication count the most.

250-word personal statement

You'll also need to draft a short personal statement. Respond to both of the prompts below to a maximum of about 250 words each. Please tell us:

  • What will an internship with Eaton mean to you?
  • Where does your passion for the electrical field come from?

That's it! Once you've filled out the application form, answered the three experience questions, and submitted your personal statement, your application is complete.

When is the Eaton-ICE scholarship deadline?

This year, the Eaton-ICE scholarships are running on a cycle. That means you'll have several opportunities to apply. Each intake offers two scholarships and paid internships.

Be aware that you don't have to start your internship as soon as you're selected as a scholarship recipient! Recipients have up to one year to start their internship after selection. A member of the Eaton team will get in touch to help you sort out your start date.

2023 Eaton-ICE scholarship deadlines:

  • Spring intake: February 28, 2023
  • Summer intake: June 30, 2023
  • Fall intake: October 31, 2023

Make sure you apply before the upcoming deadline if you're interested in a chance at a $5,000 scholarship and four-month paid internship with Eaton Electrical.
