New scholarships, bursaries, and awards are now available to women studying in wine, beer, and beverage programs at George Brown College’s Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts thanks to funding from the LCBO.

The LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) donated more than $18,000 as part of its Spirit of Inclusion Initiative meant to create opportunities for diverse women in the beverage alcohol industry.

Who is eligible for the scholarships?

The financial awards are available to eligible students in the following programs:

• CAPS Certified Sommelier Program
• Wine Specialist Program
• Beer Specialist Program
• Advanced Wine and Beverage Business Management Program
• WSET Level 3 Program

“We thank the LCBO for their generous contribution which will give eligible students the opportunity to commence or advance their careers in the fields of winemaking, brewery, and distilling,” said George Brown College President Dr. Gervan Fearon. “This is an important and growing component of our economy. We believe the beverage alcohol industry can be a leader by reflecting the diversity that exists in our communities. The Spirit of Inclusion Initiative demonstrates the LCBO’s commitment to increasing representation of diverse women in the industry, while supporting student success.”

How to apply for the scholarships

To be eligible for the funds, students must meet the following criteria:

• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person
• Be enrolled in one of the eligible programs listed above
• Self-identify as a woman from a diverse background, including but not limited to, Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour, women with disabilities, first-generation Canadian, 2SLGBTQ+, and non-binary gender.
