Graduate-Level Scholarships at Nipissing University
Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario, offers many ways to fund your graduate degree.
The Nipissing University Graduate Scholarships
Nipissing University Graduate Scholarships support graduate students who are enrolled in a full time graduate program. The Nipissing School of Graduate Studies funds a limited number of grad scholarships each year. Nipissing grad scholarships support students in research that contributes to the student's program of study and usually results in a thesis or major research paper.
Any research that's conducted under a graduate scholarship must be in line with your main major research paper or thesis (otherwise, you'll be subject to The Principle of Timely Completion, formerly known as the "10 Hour Rule").
The Principle of Timely Completion
Nipissing is committed to ensuring full-time graduate students be given every opportunity to pursue their graduate degree on a full-time basis and make satisfactory progress toward timely completion of all program requirements.
Accordingly, Nipissing University is committed to the principle that full-time graduate students are employed no more than an average of 10 hours per week on campus.
Value of a Nipissing Graduate Scholarship
The value of a graduate scholarship varies, and may be used alongside external awards, or as a student's sole source of funding. Graduate scholarships are not payment for employment. Scholarships are paid periodically throughout the year, and there's no hourly rate or any set value. These payments are not considered employment income by the university and no tax deductions are made at source. A T4A will be issued for tax purposes.
Graduate scholarships are generally worth between $5,000 and $10,000, and no application is needed. The graduate studies department at Nipissing will automatically consider you if you're in a full-time grad program with an academic average of at least 80%.
The Nipissing University Research Fellowship
Nipissing also offers variable funding for grad students to contribute to a thesis or major research paper. Funding usually comes through research grants awarded to professors, so availability will depend on your field of interest. You can apply for a research fellowship when you apply for full-time grad studies at Nipissing.
