York Advantage

One of the benefits of transferring to York is the support services specific to transfer students called the York Advantage. We will outline some of these perks below:

Student Funding

York offers specific scholarships, bursaries and awards opportunities for transfer students, such entrance scholarships ranging in value from $400 to $1,000. Additionally, you can earn awards and bursaries based on academic performance during your later years of study.

Career Resources

The Career Centre is one of their most useful support services for students looking to develop their professional skills and prepare for their future by providing them with:

• job search and skills workshops;
• cover letter and resume critiques;
• practice interview sessions;
• peer-to-peer support;
• employer recruitment events and job fairs.

Flexible Study Options

At York, we encourage you to take advantage of our flexible study options. You get the choice to map out what, when, where and how you want to study. All York programs are available for full-time study and many are also offered on a part-time basis.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, York has implemented several online learning options. The University has a full selection of academic programming for the current Fall Term, with more than 95% of the 3,500 undergraduate courses being taught through on-line and remote delivery due to the pandemic. Careful planning has facilitated our ability to offer experiential in-person learning in a select number of courses, including labs, studios, and clinical placements.

These eLearning courses are offered either Fully Online (ONLN) or Blended (BLEN), which combines in-class and online course times. If you have a long commute or a heavy schedule, eLearning courses are a fantastic way to add flexibility to your timetable.

Our students can choose from many flexible learning options, including pursuing a double major in different areas of interest across different Faculties. This means that students can design their own academic schedule, so that their degree is personalized to their career interests.

Transfer and Mature Student-Specific Support Services

The Atkinson Centre for Mature and Part-Time Students (ACMAPS) supports mature students from first year to graduation by providing orientations, transition and student success programming, advising and a peer mentor program geared toward adult learners.

In 2017, transfer student transition was successfully integrated into pan-University Orientation and the YU START program. YU START provides online transition support for incoming students, including course enrolment along with a number of first-year transition modules. There are also active Facebook groups with trained moderators to provide peer support. Students who complete YU START have a greater chance of success in first year because they experience early exposure and reinforcement of key services and resources.
