Collectively, Vancouver entrepreneur Brittany Palmer and her younger brother Bo won 35 scholarships totaling over $125,000: she was recently recognized with a national award for her work in helping other students realize their own academic dreams.

Brittany and Bo both graduated debt-free from Simon Fraser University with BAs in Communication. Through their success, she founded Unlock your Future: The Key to Scholarships, a business dedicated to making the scholarship process approachable for students. On April 12th in Toronto, Brittany received the 2014 Black Business and Professional Association Harry Jerome Award in the Young Entrepreneur category for her work with Unlock your Future. The BBPA Harry Jerome Awards is recognized as one of the most prestigious national awards gala in the African-Canadian community.

Through Unlock your Future, Brittany helps students view post-secondary education as an attainable opportunity rather than a daunting financial obstacle. Brittany has navigated the scholarship process as a student, consultant and administrator. This combination of perspectives has helped build a comprehensive and strategic approach to scholarships. Since 2005, Brittany has presented the Unlock your Future Scholarship Seminar to thousands of students, parents and educators. In addition, she has produced a Scholarship Workbook that accompanies the program, offers consultations and awards three Unlock your Future Scholarships annually. As a student, Brittany utilized ScholarshipsCanada.com to connect with opportunities and as a consultant has been a regular presenter in the webinar series since 2011.

You do not need a 95% average or an international achievement to win a scholarship. Brittany encourages students to conquer those misconceptions and be confident. By demystifying the scholarship process through a step-by-step program, Brittany demonstrates that scholarships are indeed possible.
